Stikkan 50
The ABBA members were among the guests attending the birthday party at Stig's big house in Stockholm. ABBA arrived at 7 am. Björn and Benny went into Stikkan's villa Ekarnes through the window. The first present for Stikkan was a little cabaret with dance performed by among others Agnetha Fältskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Görel Hanser, Lena Ulvaeus and Lillebil Ankarcrona. They sang songs especially written for Stikkan. The party continued a whole day.

ENTREVISTA A FRIDA SOBRE HÉROES / Frida interviewed about heroes
¿Has hecho algún curso?
- No, no realmente.
1. Why do you want to be a member of the Swedish Heroes jury?
– There are many everyday heroes, but most of them stay anonymous. To be a part of recognizing the heroes is going to be an important process for me and a reward in itself.
2. Define the word hero in three words.
– Heart, consideration and courage.
3. Is it some times forgiveable to turn a blind eye when someone is suffering?
– It depends on the situation. Perhaps if it means that you can get harmed yourself you have think through how to act. But spontaneously I would say that most people would like to lend a helping hand.
4. Many victims of accidents are brought back to life with CPR. Have you taken such a course?
– No, not even an avalanche course, even though I ski so much. But these kind of courses should be mandatory in school. Just like courses in humanity.
5. Can you remember a situation when you didn't intervene and you regretted it?
– No, not really. I'm known to be a straight forward woman who isn't afraid to speak my mind.
6. Why is it important to recognize everyday heroes?
– Because most of them never are recognized, even though they are almost everywhere, even in very small circumstances. If you recognize heroes more heroes are born. The heroes can bring out what is in all of us.
7. Who is the hero among heroes for you?
– My grandmother Arntine Lyngstad who took me and moved to Sweden when I was two years old. She had no idea of what to expect. She had style, feeling and pride. It is not until I've gotten older that I have realised what a great achievement she made.

ABBA's Benny Andersson Talks Hall of Fame Induction, Band's Reunion Prospects

ANDY GREENEPosted Dec 15, 2009 5:53 AM
ABBA's journey: classic photos of the pop icons.
Was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nod for ABBA something you thought about or expected to happen?
I'm surprised. It's quite wonderful. I didn't think this would happen, because we were a pop band, not a rock band.
Did you speak yet to the rest of your group about it?
No. Only to Björn [Ulvaeus]. We meet maybe once a week to talk through things. I haven't spoken to the girls, but I know they're happy. I believe that a band that is inducted to the Hall is supposed to do a performance, but I don't think we can do that. Agnetha [Fältskog] is not flying, so I don't know how she's going to get to New York. And we haven't done anything together in 30 years. It's a difficult one. But, again, but you should never say never, you know?
I've seen reports in the papers that you turned down a billions dollars to reunite.
I've seen that, too. But to tell you the truth, I don't know. I haven't seen it in writing. I really doubt it, if you ask me. Who would pay that? We were supposed to do a year and a half of X number of concerts, but we never even contemplated going into negotiations because we didn't want to do it.
Why? Do you think it's just best left to memories of how it used to be?
I think so. Don't you? The people who are really fond of ABBA for what we did, I think we are doing them a favor by not going out. We all feel the same. It's been too long of a time. It's been almost 30 years. There is no reason. I can't understand the bands that reunite, because there will always be a reason, whether it be economic reasons or the fun of it... being on the stage again. We don't have that.
Back in the '70s when you were making all these songs, did you think they'd have this afterlife?
No way. You don't think in those terms. You try to do your best with each song and then you release it and you hope for the best and then you hop on to the next one. It's quite incredible, I can see now that the kids, young children, between five and 15 knowing all these songs, singing all these songs all of a sudden. It has a lot to do with Mamma Mia! I'll tell you one thing. No one thought of this in the '70s.
It seems ABBA that is more lucrative now than in the band's heyday.
I don't know. The back catalog is constantly selling and the whole Mamma Mia! thing from the first musical theater production through the movie, obviously that has generated a lot of money, but I cannot say. We are doing well. I'm just grateful being in this situation. Again, you don't think these thoughts when you are sitting down to write a decent pop song. It takes a while to write good stuff. But you aim to do your best with some sincerity and the outcome — you can't tell until afterwards. It's like putting on a Broadway production. No one knows anything until after the opening night.
There have been reports about a possible sequel to Mamma Mia! Are they true?
It's not as far as I know. I know Universal Pictures wouldn't mind, but the thing with Mamma Mia! is that it's so cleverly put together by Catherine Johnson using the old, original lyrics. And she succeeded in doing that. I don't think there are another 20 good-enough songs. And even if they were, I don't think the lyrics would help her to create another story. There might be some other way we can sort of continue the collaboration between us, the bunch that sort of created Mamma Mia! in the first place, but maybe it could be sort of something else, related only by the fact that it's the same people behind whatever it is coming out.

The Swedish pop group Abba, 1960s Brit-rock pioneers The Hollies and reggae legend Jimmy Cliff will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in March, the Hall of Fame Foundation has announced.
The Stooges, nominated and subsequently rejected seven times, and Genesis also got the nod. They'll be joined by U.S. entertainment industry mogul David Geffen and seven songwriters: Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill, Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman and Otis Blackwell.
But Kiss and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, thought to be frontrunners on the short list, did not make the cut.
"It's quite wonderful," Abba's Benny Andersson told Rolling Stone magazine. "I didn't think this would happen because we were a pop band, not a rock band."
But he said the group is unlikely to reunite for a performance at the 25th annual concert and ceremony on March 15 at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
"Agnetha [Fältskog] is not flying … And we haven't done anything together in 30 years," he said.

Superb unreleased song Abba recorded in May 1982. This is known as the Na Na's version because of Agnetha's excellent distinctive background vocals. Agnetha still looks beautiful even after a hard day's singing. As she sings in TDBYC "I need a lot of sleep, I like to be in bed by 10." Goodnight Agnetha. See you in the next song.
