Hitkrant, August 1977: ABBA’s island - Agnetha and Björn want peace and quiet
In the blue water of the sea at the Stockholm coast, there are hundreds of islands, varying in size from tiny to middle-sized. One of them has been bought by ABBA and except for being a splendid and rough piece of land, there are a small recording studio and three houses as well. It’s there where you’ll be able to find Agnetha around this time of the year, who will be soaking up the sun together with Björn and Linda.
It’s going to be a very special holiday, this time. Not only because, for the first time in years, the ABBA-members have the opportunity to catch their breath for a while, but also because Agnetha and Björn will be able to prepare themselves in all peace and quiet for the arrival of their second child, in November.
Frida and Benny will probably not join them: they love to spend their holidays at far-of, exotic beaches. But Agnetha and Björn prefer to stay close to home.
There isn’t much comfort on the ABBA-island, but Agnetha and Björn don’t think it’s that important.
“The most important thing is that we’re not bothered by anyone,” Agnetha says and Björn adds: “There is no telephone and although that’s less convenient for Agnetha...” A thump from his blonde wife prevents him from finishing his sentence, but then Agnetha herself admits: “Yes, I have a habit of hanging on the telephone for hours, especially with my mother who always wants to know exactly how Linda is doing.” “The highest phone bill in Scandinavia,” Björn says, who has to hide away rapidly to avoid another thump.
The only thing that the Ulvaeus family is concerned about on their island is peace and quiet. And that’s just what they’ll get in abundance; lounging around, soaking up the sun, taking a ride with the boat and most of all, playing with Linda. Because Agnetha and Björn don’t see very much of their daughter and that’s why they grab every opportunity they can to spend time with her.
They will need their holiday, because after that there’s another busy time ahead of them. That’s why we grant Agnetha, Björn and little Linda their little time off wholeheartedly.
Living It Up on Opening Night / 'Mamma Mia!' party celebrates U.S. premiere of ABBA musical
Carla Meyer, Chronicle Staff Writer Published 4:00 am, Monday, November 20, 2000
he dance floor was dishearteningly empty for more than an hour as the DJ spun everything from Frank Sinatra to Bob Marley. Then, finally, came sweet relief: ABBA's "Dancing Queen" brought the place to life, with "Mamma Mia!" actress Tina Maddigan taking to the floor for a spirited dance with a couple of pals.
The moment gave those attending Friday night's "Mamma Mia!" cast party -- in Alexandra's, atop the Westin St. Francis -- a chance to relive the joy of a few hours before, when the U.S. premiere of the musical at the Orpheum Theatre brought the audience to its feet to dance and clap to the Swedish supergroup's staples.

But the real attractions were across the way in Victor's Palace, where celebrities like ABBA front men Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and "Will & Grace" star Eric McCormack were in from Stockholm and Burbank, respectively, to celebrate.
Benny, relaxing at a corner table with his tuxedo shirt and tie unbuttoned, was pleased with the reaction of the Orpheum crowd to the show, which has broken box-office records in London and Toronto. "I have to say, I think it was the best" of the musical's three opening nights, he said.
Bjorn was impressed with how the production played at the Orpheum, a much bigger venue than those in England and Canada. "It seemed to fill it anyway," said Ulvaeus, who was accompanied by his 18-year-old daughter, Emma.
McCormack arrived in San Francisco just before curtain time to cheer theater pals from his hometown of Toronto. He loved the show, which he saw for the first time Friday night with his wife, Janet Holden. "It takes (ABBA) songs that were unintentionally funny and makes them really funny, and it takes songs only vaguely moving and makes them really moving."
Clad in gray turtleneck and matching suede jacket, McCormack was a vision of casual understatement in a crowd of male fashion that included chorus boys in
Mylar pants, chorus-boy admirers in mesh T-shirts and at least one mullet haircut.
As a sitcom actor with acknowledged musical-theater leanings -- he sang "Sweet Transvestite" in full Dr. Frank N. Furter drag on a recent TV tribute to "Rocky Horror" -- McCormack can spot a showstopper. He cites "The Winner Takes It All," sung by his pal Louise Pitre, as the best "Mamma Mia!" moment.
Pitre, who has won raves for her role as the mamma in "Mamma Mia!," arrived in a sequined dress, as did her stage daughter, Maddigan -- the show's sense of fashion flash extending to their party garb. Pitre was accompanied by her husband, Toronto stage actor Joe Matheson.
She said the original London version of the show was North Americanized in Toronto. Pitre spoke proudly of a line she wrote: "At one point, I say, 'Holy s--,' " she said, "which is not British at all."
Best of Broadway producer Carole Shorenstein Hays first lobbied Bjorn and Benny to bring the show to San Francisco back in April 1999. "I was fervent to the point of being a little bit of a terrorist," she said. "I knew it was the right show, the right theater, the right town."
"It's really over the top, and the San Francisco audience is not afraid of that," said Scott Nederlander, Shorenstein Hays' producing partner, who stopped to chat with her father, Walter Shorenstein, while greeting guests near the elevators.
Soaking up the 32nd-floor views in the more sparsely populated Alexandra's room, young cast member Nicolas Dromard joshed and took snapshots with one of the show's leads, Gary P. Lynch.
The actors were marking "a new chapter" -- the Toronto cast's arrival in San Francisco -- Dromard said. He was dressed in a black suit of such synthetic shine as to be coveted by any ABBA devotee. What was it made of? "I have no idea," he said, laughing.

Where can you watch an electric performance from Jimi Hendrix and one of Bob Marley's last gigs? At the new Gröna Lund Backstage exhibition in Stockhom. The Local met Abba icon Björn Ulvaeus – who also played there – to take a sneak peak at the ode to a legendary venue.
Seven roller coasters, 177,601 hamburgers consumed in 2016 alone, and 89 years of music history – the Gröna Lund amusement park in Stockholm is an institution, not least for having one of the oldest and most important music stages in Sweden.
The Beatles, Iggy Pop, Miles Davis, Bryan Adams, Cliff Richard, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, BB King, Louis Armstrong – the list of people to set foot on that stage is enviable. Every year since 1928 the park has attracted hundreds of thousands of music lovers to its famous summer concerts, and with line-ups like that it's no wonder.
The new Gröna Lund Backstage exhibition at Pop House Stockholm celebrates that history, paying tribute to all the fantastic stories that have unfolded there over nearly 90 years. The Local contributor Miriam Bade was one of the lucky few to get a sneak peak of the exhibition ahead of its launch,
"This is a very Swedish thing," Abba legend Björn Ulvaeus tells The Local at the launch.

"Gröna Lund is one of the most popular stages in Sweden, in the middle of the city. I think the exhibition is pretty much complete, and I like to go through it with people who haven't seen it before."
Asked to pick one favourite part, the Abba mastermind says it's too difficult:
"I wouldn't point out one specific place. It all belongs together. I dont have a favourite spot here any more than I have a favourite Abba song."
Not many venues can claim to have hosted Abba in their prime and Chuck Berry. Photo: Micke Bayart
Located downstairs from the main entrance to the popular Abba The Museum in Pop House Stockholm, the first thing visitors see when entering the exhibition is a huge wall of video.
Each screen shows historic concerts, framed and illuminated with multi-coloured light bulbs. Grab a set of headphones and get lost in the sounds, sights and atmosphere of concerts by no less than Jimi Hendrix (1967), Kiss (1976), Lady Gaga (2009) and – of course – Abba (1975).
All took place at Gröna Lund during the last half century. Bob Marley's landmark concert from 1980, represented though closing number Lively Up Yourself, stands out in particular. The realization that this was one of his last performances before dying less than a year later is sure to send shivers up the listner's spine.
Music history, and a slice of amusement park iconography for good measure. Photo: Pop House Stockholm
On top of the videos there's original photography, the park's typically unique looking concert posters, and even stage outfits spread across eight smaller gallery areas and ordered chronologically.
But even if the exhibition serves as a reminder of memories from years gone by, Ulvaeus admits that years of constant media reporting of his every move has killed some of the nostalgia factor for him. "I really can't say that it awakens nostalgia in me. It doesn't, because I see it all the time," he laments
For us mere mortals who haven't lived a life in the spotlight however, it's a brilliant insight into one of Stckholm's truly historic places and an emotional trip down a musical memory lane.
Gröna Lund Backstage is open from May until December 20th 2017. Entrance is included in the standard ticket to Abba The Museum, so while you're there watching The Beatles and Hendrix, you should also take some time to learn about Sweden's greatest ever pop export, according to Ulvaeus:
"When I got involved in the Abba museum I wanted to make it with a sense of humour, very human, very warm and for people to get closer to us and maybe to recognize the beginnings".
When Frida was promoting her 1996 album "Djupa Andetag" she did this fashion shoot and interview for Swedish magazine "Månadsjournalen". I find this to be a very good interview and the pictures, taken by photographer Denise Grünstein, are beautiful. I think you can tell that this reporter got to spend some time with Frida and met her more than just one time. Interesting what she has to say about Agnetha and also the relationship to her father. Enjoy, my friends:
There are so much more than her voice that has matured with Anni-Frid Lyngstad, when she now is back after twelve years. Life has never been easy for the ABBA-princess, but she has gone through it.
- Talk naturally to each other, says the guy with the TV-camera.
- Ignore us, just sit there and talk." Anni-Frid Lyngstad is picking the sallad with her plastic fork. Anders Glenmark raises his water glass. The microphone is dingling a decimetre away, the silence feels complete, like in a recording studio, three men from the state television are observing them:
- Sit like that, a little more to the right, naturally, you hear?
- Talk now, it could be useful, talk now, there, to the left for the light for Frida, be natural.
Frida says something about that it must be fun for the philharmonics to play pop music. What can you say. The tone of the conversation is so positive:
- I had no idea you were so talented...
It's a very unnatural situation. But pretend closeness is part of promoting almost any product nowadays, even music. Swedish Television has followed Anni-Frid Lyngstad monthly to make a film to show when she releases her first album in twelve years. It will probably be great, shots from Mallorca where Frida has a luxurious house, the mild voice of Mark Levengood and so on. But anyone who is genuinally curious about the ABBA-singer, the international celebrity, the multimillionnaire and friend of the Swedish royal family Anni-Frid Lyngstad, married to prince Ruzzo Reuss for a decade or so, should choose to listen to the lyrics of her songs.
That's where she is. The music is written by Anders Glenmark, and the lyrics also and he is in charge of the production. But the feeling is Frida's:
- I have been dwelling on myself in these songs.
So despite the fact that Anders Glenmark, who is ten years younger and a man, has written the lyrics, this is what's behind it:
- I wanted to portray the mature woman I am. The fact that I still have a little girl inside me, that I allow myself to be young, but don't have to be 20 anymore, all at the same time.
No wonder Glenmark's wife said she didn't recognize her husband anymore. Among the eternal pop words always and never flows intoxicating minor chords and the dream of being the woman of your life, your loved one and your best friend. Among the caressing sounds that reminds you of outdoor dancing we will see what happens, may it be good, suddenly a dandelion appears that longs for the sun. An intense longing after closeness, I want more, a breath from your soul.
- You become more brave as you get older. It would be great if women my age can relate to this. It's 1996 now, I want time and room for both sex and sensuality.
It's almost twenty years since ABBA was at the height of their fame, so long ago that the group has had a revival and their records have been re-released. Recently, earlier this year, a bestselling British book was published, telling the "truth" about the differences and separations within ABBA.
Frida's attitude towards the media and the reporters is not divided. It's totally negative. The book is not worth anything more than a shrug of the shoulders, "just a concoction of the old gossip". And this interview for this magazine is of course a part of promoting the new album, just like the TV-film. Frida is out "doing press". The magazine has to be approved, just like the reporter, the photographer has to be the right one, clothes have be carefully picked, the copy has to be read, the pictures seen. Those are the conditions, I should have gotten used to it. For our first meeting I arrive with a surly face, but friendly, just to not ruin the job. I never get used to it. I feel like I'm forced to do it.
But how did Frida feel?
Who never got a positive reaction from the media (apart from her break through the night when Sweden changed their traffic rules and started driving on the right side of the road instead of the left in 1967. When the mother-of-two Anni-Frid Lystad-Fredriksson, 21, from Eskilstuna, (including the misspelling of her last name, sang on TV so well that the whole population forgot their worries about the new traffic rules). Whose professional ambitions were despised, whose world fame didn't sit well with the political situation in Sweden in the 70's, whose finances were something suspicious, whose success were laughed at, whose looks were watched like they were an issue of international importance, whose private life was sold in the form of colourfull eye candy?
Not to mention her relationship to Agnetha Fältskog.
- When we first met Agnetha was 17 years old. I was married and had two children - I got pregnant for the first time when I was 16. Five years age difference is enormous when you are that age - and besides that Agnetha and I had, and will always have, two completely different personalities. That does not mean that we don't like each other a lot. She has had her hardships as well. The famous animosity has never existed.
- How was it back then, when you were singing together?
- We pushed each other in a positive way. Anything you can do I can do better! Now, when I listen to what we did, I think our voices sound fantastic together. I have wanted us to make a record together for years, and Agnetha wants to do that too. But not yet. I have to wait until she feels ready.
But long lasting friendship does not make very good headlines.
Divorces, on the other hand, do. There was a day when Frida popped in to her local store in Lidingö to buy milk and was faced with the billboards announcing her and Benny Andersson's divorce. Frida left the milk and went home:
- That was the moment I decided I had to move abroad. I understood that I would be easy prey for the press. This spring I got to relive that feeling, good friends faxed me billboards saying that I and Ruzzo were divorcing. I felt sick. It physically hurt. For eleven years they had left me alone, now I was back in that position again. To be honest I wanted to tell the whole press and media to go to hell. I'm hurt. I really don't want to spend any time with that category of people.
From the archives I retrieve a typical article from Dagens Nyheter, published in 1977, where the culture reporter Ingemar Glanzelius is taking offence over "ABBA ignoring the idealistic dream of culture and aim straight for the capitalistic reality of our society". Glanzelius mean that ABBA "are making the most political music in our country". It is "Ring Ring (Bara Du Slog En Signal)" he is talking about.
Twenty years later it's funny but back then it was serious. During the years when Frida continued to be a celebrity because she is a celebrity, the distrust hasn't gone away at all.
Here starts the process for a wish of total control. The wish to be in control. The new album will only be released in Scandinavia, it is in Swedish, mostly because Frida wanted to avoid the international media circus:
- People like to gossip about others, I do to. But if you choose to make up lies for a living, you must lead a pretty empty life.
Before our second meeting Frida has called a mutual friend and the conversations between us flows much easier.
So finally both her and me stop acting like we were on a stage. It's now we talk about grandmother.
Frida2_2In every person's life there is a base that explains a lot of what comes later. In Frida's life it's her grandmother. It's from her she has made her race to the top. When media through the years have compared the former ABBA member's ability to manage their fortunes, Frida has always come out on top. Smart girl. Emotions drove her from Sweden, and it was important that the money came with her. They were, and are, the ticket to a completely different life than the one she shared with her grandmother. During the interview Frida says that she is a socialist. That surprises me. Afterwards she calls me up and says that she has looked up the word:
- And I'm not a socialist. But I have my roots in the working class, it has to do with my reality, I grew up in it. I know what it means to be poor and left behind. My race to the top has nothing to do with cottage and castle, but with self worth. I have made the transition from being a loser to some who has made a success of her life.
Frida's mother fell in love with a German soldier when she was a teenager i Norway during the war. She became one of the despised "German's girls" and on top of it she got pregnant. The man was married, and had children whom he went back to when the war was over. In the sorrow over his betrayal her mother didn't want to live anymore. She died when she was 19.
- My grandmother had already lost her husband, now she lost her daughter and was stuck with me. I wasn't even two years old when she left Norway to find a new life in Sweden. An incredibly strong woman. She found an apartmentbuilding where she became the caretaker so she didn't have to pay any rent, she grew potatoes and vegetables, kept everything tidy and made all my clothes. Frida smiles.
- Do you remember those sleeveless ribbed shirts? I really wanted one. But there was no chance she would buy me clothes as long as she could sew.
Now, with some distance to the past, Frida is able to see the pain in her granmother's life and she also realize that one way to express love is to take care of someone's basic needs. That wasn't as obvious as she was growing up. Her grandmother didn't express her affection and didn't hug or kiss her.
- We were two lonely people who were together, you could say. Even as a grown up I have the need to be completely alone at times. Especially when I need to heal from something bad, there has been some hard times in my life.
Is it starting to sound sad?
Well, let's change that then.
1996fridaexhaustedchairFrida may have had a rocky start in life, but it gave her strength. When the unknown, German father appeared during the most hectic ABBA years, suddenly interested in her, Frida was curious to meet him. Who wouldn't have been? After she had noticed some similarities, and after realizing that her father had known that his Norwegian girlfriend was pregnant, but still didn't reply to her letters, she decided the contact with her father was something she could do without.
- I'm rather with people who dont betray. Her voice is firm.
- I'm not easily impressed. I have found my place, and there noone can touch me.
I don't know how Frida is in private. Like the three other former members of ABBA she is surrounded by people who limit their comments about them to superlatives. Or they do as Michael B Tretow did in a TV-interview recently; make up a story about how ABBA drank 'gäddjuice' (pike juice). Gäddjuice? But it sounded true. The next day a reporter was really excited over the new, true ABBA story.
How many times during the years have people enjoyed themselves by spreading rumours. Though, in Frida's case, her description of herself is immovable, that's the word that comes to me. An incredible volition. The voice is pleasant, the tone is stern. The look in her eyes is friendly and she never looks away from you. She is not giving in.
Is it her attitude towards the media again? Her upbringing with her grandmother? Never exposed again? How much should an interview try to find the answers to these questions when Frida herself says that maybe it's all in her personality, from birth?
But as long as Frida can remember she always had a vision of a different life. Her singing voice was her chance, the ambition, limitless. The fact that she had children didn't stop her professional ambition. Everytime an opportunity came she took it:
- All fame cost, mine too. Today I have a loving relationship to both my grown up children. But there was a time when my daughter denied that I was her mother. I'm afraid the loneliness from my childhood with my grandmother was transferred to my children, I'm not a very physical person either. The only one I touch gladly, without hesitation is my husband.
To summarize, Frida's children got to see the bad sides of being famous.
- Suddenly some fans walked in through the door, and there stood my children. Not all of the fans are completely sane. That hurt me and it hurt my children. It has taken a long time, and many talks between us to heal our relations. Now,in hindsight, I can see the price of fame, but I don't regret what I did. Did?
- I always put myself first. All the time. That didn't change until I met my husband, Ruzzo. Once we had moved in together, I made my decision. For the first time in my life I would someone else's needs first. I devoted myself to him.
Ruzzo Reuss, a German prince, is a golf course architecht. Frida became his caddie, around the world and learned to play golf at the same time. Suddenly she was part of the royal circle who hunt and skii together. Since the 70s Ruzzo is a friend of the Swedish king and queen. And now, so is Frida. Their common interest in nature and children's well being has deepend their relationship and queen Silvia is, among other prominent people, a member of an international foundation, which Frida, in classic upper class style, is a member of:
- I think it's important to give something back when I have received so much.
Her involvement in Mentor Foundation for the prevention of substance abuse is not the only one. An article in a paper about the acid rain, in the early 80's, made Frida so upset she immediately joind the environmental foundation The Natural Step. In the legacy from her grandmother she is, as Frida herself calls it "extremely pedantic". The work consumed her. After founding and being the CEO of Artister För Miljö, she preferred her own foundation, Stiftelsen Anni-Frid Lyngstads Miljöfond, which for example support two summer camps that teaches children about ecology.
In the mid 80's, when Frida's interest in the environment still was new, I interviewed her for Expressen. We were at Skeppsholmen, where The Natural Step had its office. I liked her, she was unexpectedly serious. But what impressed me most was her hair colour. Wasn't she the one who introduced the unlikely colour "black tulip"? There she was, in total different light. She had changed class, that's how it felt. What used to be glass pearls were now real.
Even at home at her grandmother's she used a napkin to wipe her mouth. But:
- Where I started, that's where I belong. A part of me is still the little girl my grandmother led around the house showing me how house work was done.
Describe that girl:
- Always searching, often alone, never scared.
She would not have put it like that during the ABBA years. She says that ABBA belongs to her youth, there is so much more than here voice that has matured, gotten deeper.
- The big change came after the divorce from Benny. It was then I broke out of the little world. I was forced to change my life radically. The safety net was gone, I was alone.
The step out into the unknown killed the feeling of break up. The need to hide from the world would have come no matter where in the world she was. However, in London, it became possible. "My need for solitude" as Frida calls it has only grown stronger. It started when she read some of what the Indian philosopher Krishnamurti wrote when she was in the middle of the big ABBA era.
- I took his advice, I focused on one thing at a time. In the middle of the chaos I could sit down and completely devot myself to lifting a glass of water.
Nowadays Frida finds the solitude and calmness in Switzerland. The farm outside of Bern, the smell of cows. And of course the Alps.
Fridamjwalking - To go hiking the way I do nowadays is a way expose one self. You reach a narrow passage and it's literally a matter of life and death to get passed it. That situation is similar to what I have been through emotionally. It is such a liberating feeling to get passed it, if you have done it once you will be able to face your pain in a completely different way.
Her biggest spiritual experiences has always happend on mountains, like last year when she was hiking on Mount Kenya. On the morning of New Year's Day she was approaching 5000 metres. At the noon the group reached the difficult passages. Suddenly there was a sign:
Go careful friend, for here is high
Go daringly where eagles fly
Go eternally with Jesus nigh
- I cried, it was so big, I felt close to God, and the feeling of that allmightiness it lifts you.
And now she releases a CD.
- When I walked into the studio I remembered something Tina Turner said once, that the voice is hanging in there, just waiting for you. That's exactly how it felt.

I samma veva producerade Benny Fridas första lp.
Mitt i all uppståndelsen kring ABBA inträffade något som totalt förändrade Fridas liv.
Ägnar all tid åt sin fond
Annars ägnade hon all sin tid åt ett nyväckt miljöengagemang. Hon blev stiftelsen ”Det naturliga stegets” ansikte utåt.

1997fridastigsfuneralArticle from Aftonbladet 4 April 1999. This shows that Frida was planning, even started to make another album after the success of "Djupa Andetag". I've just learned that one of the tracks Frida tried out on a demo recording was "Wonderwall" by Oasis! But then tragedy struck and nothing came of it. Let's hope the rumours of more recordings with Frida this year are true. I wonder if some songs were recorded properly in 1999 and if we will ever get to hear them...
Now the ABBA-star is back - her new CD will be released soon.
On Tuesday the new ABBA-musical "Mamma Mia!" opens in London. On the same day it's 25 years since ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton with "Waterloo".
The difference between Agnetha's and Frida's careers is that Frida's is still alive. She is recording a new album right now.
- The music is a hobby for Frida, says Marie Ledin, head of the record company Anderson Records. Her last CD was a comeback after 12 years of silence. It was a success. And if everything goes according to plan, a new one will be released this fall or early next year.
- We have started recording demos, but we don't know if the album will be in English or in Swedish yet, says Frida's personal manager Thomas Johansson. He is also the head of EMA Telstar who was ABBA's promotion company which organised their tours.
- To Frida, the music is more of a hobby. She is not that interested in doing interviews, appearing on TV or going on tour. She does not have to release a new album every other year like other artists. It's not about financial matters for her, it's about the desire to sing, says Marie Ledin. The new album will be recorded in Frida's son Hans Fredriksson's recordingstudio in Trosa. Today he works as a sound technician and cooperates with his mother. On the last album "Djupa Andetag" from 1996 she collaborated with Anders Glenmark. He wrote the music, produced and wrote the lyrics in close contact with Frida.
- I think it was Thomas Johansson who suggested that we should work together. It was a lot of fun working with Frida, absolutely no problems. She is such a professional, says Glenmark.
BORN IN NORWAY
Anni-Frid Lyngstad was born on 15 November 1945 in Ballangen, close to Narvik in norther Norway. Her father was a German soldier and when he, without knowing that his young mistress was pregnant, left Norway 19 year old Synni Lyngstad was rejected by the community. She died two years later. To spare Frida from the stigma of being the child of a German soldier her grandmother brought her to Eskilstuna in Sweden.
When Frida was only 13 she got her first singing job in a restaurant. In the early 60's she sang with a lot of different bands. In one of the bands was a bassplayer, Ragnar Fredriksson, who she fell in love with. They got married and had their first child Hans when Frida was 18 years old. Four years later she gave birth to a daughter, Liselott.
PERFORMED ON HYLANDS HÖRNA
Her future as a housewife seemed to be mapped out. But in 1967, only six months after Liselott was born, she won the talent contest "New Faces" and got to appear on the Hylands Hörna TV-show. After that things really started to happen. She met Benny Andersson, teen idol in Hep Stars. They got engaged in 1969.
- There was so much love between those two. When they met they fell in love immediately, says Little Gerhard, who at the time was working as a talent scout.
Around the same time Benny produced Frida's first album. Even though it was a success, she decided to participate in the Melodfestival with Agnetha, Björn and Benny.
MET HER FATHER
Frida enjoyed life after ABBA's victory with "Waterloo" in Brighton 1974. Unlike Agnetha, Frida appreciated the attention.
- Frida was always carefull with her looks and took good care of herself. Agnetha preferred to sleep or have a glass of whiskey with me when we were on tour. But there was not a lot of partying on ABBA's tours says Bosse Norling.
In the middle of ABBA's huge success something life altering happened to Frida. Out of the blue her German father, who she always had thought was dead, turned up. A relative to him hade read the biography of Frida in a German magazine.
1978abbaredBoth Frida and Agnetha have denied the rumours that they didn't get along and were enemies. But they were never really friends either. The stories about their fights have been told many times. In the book "The Name of the Game" the authors claim that Frida and Agnetha hit each other with gold records!
Frida and Benny's relationships seemed solid. When Agnetha and Björn divorced in 1978 they went the opposite way - they got married. It lasted until February 1981. The reason was that Benny had met another woman, Mona Nörklit, who he married at the end of that year. "Hon Fick Som Hon Ville" on Frida's latest album is about the difficult separation.
- In some cases you don't even know when the break up is coming. When it comes to my marriage to Benny there were so many other things surrounding ABBA that was disturbing, Frida said when the last CD was released.
In 1986 Frida moved to Fribourg in Switzerland. The reason was a new man, the Italian prince Ruzzo Reuss von Plauen. In her new life there was little room for her music, but she had a hit in 1987 with Ratata; "Så Länge Vi Har Varann".
WORKS FOR HER FOUNDATION
She got involved in environmental issues and became the spokeswoman for The Natural Step. Today she is raising money for her own foundation - The Anni-Frid Lyngstad Foundation - which let young people go to summer camps and learn about protecting the environment. In 1992 she agreed to do her first TV-interview on Swedish Television for years. She was interviewed by Stina Dabrowski who she gave a mini compost, a little box with worms in it.
In 1996 she released the successfull album "Djupa Andetag" and now she is working on the sequel. Frida is on her way back.

Då frosten just besegrat natten
Kanske var det promenaden
Vid havet
I obarmhärtig storm
Som samlade mig
Stärkte mig, närde mig
Men hon fick som hon ville...
Ser jag dig
I närheten av den kvinnan igen
Kan jag försäkra dig
Aldrig mer

Björn Ulvaeus var kvar själv i New York – alla hans kollegor hade åkt hem.

November glücklich in ihrer Wahlheimat Schweiz.

Magia, pura magia.
