In a meeting room in New Broadcasting House, the BBC’s headquarters, Björn Ulvaeus of Abba is discussing the running order of Radio 4’s Today. On Friday, the dapper Swede (he is 77, but could easily pass for a decade younger) will be one of the show’s Christmas guest editors. The world premiere of a new song is promised. On his news agenda are items about Eurovision, diminishing trust in institutions and music streaming.
All is going well until someone mentions the weather bulletin. “Why would people listen to the weather? Just look at the app,” says the bemused Ulvaeus, clearly not as fluent in the British as his pristine English suggests.
