Det är Gorel Johnsen, 30, som ser till att allt funkar. Under nagra hektiska dagar i Tokyo finns det inte utrymme för tras-sel med administrationen.

Stikkan och ABBA skulle inte klara sig utan henne, säger Stikkans fru Gudrun, som ock-sa jobbar pa Polar Music.

Det är självklart att hon ska ha en formell titel som sva rar mot det jobb hon har, tycker Gudrun Andersson. Fast det är klart... Det finns säkert massor av jätteduktiga sekreterare l det här landet som har jobb som är mycket mer kvalificerade än man kan tro.Det är inte klokt att de ofta varken far lön eller titel som svarar mot jobben! Görels lön?

Görel Johnsen, 30, nyutnämnd ABBA-direktör, kommer från Skövde precis som Stikkan Andersson. Men det är inte därför hon blivit hans högra hand. Hon är väldigt duktig. Det finns många sekreterare, men väldigt få får lön och titel därefter.

Gudrun vill inte säga exakt Men mer än 15 000 kronor i ma-naden. Da jobbar Görel ofta till sent pa kvällarna. Och på hel gerna också ibland.

Görel Johnsen bor ihop med Anders Hanser sedan ett ar till-baka.

Görel, mano derecha de Stikkan "ABBA" Andersson durante muchos años, se ha convertido en vicepresidenta de Polar Music.

Fue a Japón unos días antes que Agneta, Frida, Björn, Benny y todos los demás para arreglar y organizar.

Görel Hanser (73 años, Skultorp, Suecia) lleva toda una vida junto al cuarteto pop sueco más famoso de todos los tiempos. Hace más de medio siglo que se unió a la banda, cuando ni siquiera ABBA se llamaba ABBA y Agnetha, Frida, Björn y Benny llevaban sus carreras en solitario. Comenzó a trabajar de secretaria a los 19 años para Stig Anderson, el antiguo manager del grupo y creador de la primera discográfica de la banda, Polar Music. En los 70 ya era imprescindible en esta empresa, y muy pronto fue nombrada vicepresidenta. Hoy Görel Hanser es más que la manager personal de ABBA, y después de numerosos cargos vinculados a los miembros de la banda, una de las personas que mejor conoce al grupo, que acaba de regresar a los escenarios con un espectáculo virtual en Londres. “Los he visto crecer. Han tenido que pasar más de 40 años para que los cuatro volvieran a posar de nuevo juntos en público. No lo hicieron para subirse al escenario, sino para presentar su noveno álbum y el espectáculo del mismo nombre, Voyage, un concierto tecnológico que devuelve al cuarteto a la escena. Aunque no son ellos los que actúan, sino sus ABBAtars, como han llamado a sus réplicas tecnológicas. ¿Y por qué ahora, cuatro décadas más tarde? “ABBA nunca dijo adiós. Simplemente tomaron sus propios caminos, como lo habían hecho antes, pero no se despidieron. Participaron en shows de televisión e hicieron otras cosas, como componer canciones más largas para un musical”, responde por teléfono.

Hanser, que en 2018 recibió un premio Grammi sueco por su trabajo con Stikkan Anderson y ABBA durante años, conversa sobre el cuarteto al que ha acompañado toda una vida con motivo de la colección de ABBA de EL PAÍS, que reúne la discografía completa del grupo y dos discos adicionales y cuya primera entrega, Ring Ring (1973), se ofrece este domingo con el diario. Guarda Hanser un buen recuerdo del primer álbum. Fue algo más que un debut sencillo. Ring Ring fue también la canción con la que aspiraron a participar en Eurovisión en 1973: “Trabajábamos muy duro. Fue una buena combinación de música, letra y canto. Fue como el comienzo para lanzar a ABBA fuera de Suecia. Quizá fue bueno que no se clasificaran con Ring Ring porque al año siguiente, cuando tuvimos Waterloo, todo el mundo estaba mucho más preparado”.

Ríe al otro lado de la línea antes de repasar algunas anécdotas vinculadas a sus álbumes: “A ver si me acuerdo”. Recuerda especialmente el despegue, con Waterloo (1974), el álbum y el éxito con el que los cuatro actuaron en el concurso de canción europea, un año más tarde de Ring Ring. No se olvidará de los periódicos al día siguiente de la victoria: “ABBA estaba en todas partes. ABBA, ABBA, números uno, ABBA…”. Era la primera vez que Suecia ganaba Eurovisión.

En el 75 llegaron los éxitos de Mamma Mia, I Do, I Do, I Do y SOS; para Gorel, tres grandes temas que consolidaron al grupo en los mercados de Australia y Reino Unido. De Arrival (1976) recuerda especialmente esa portada en helicóptero, “una foto icónica”. Pronto llegaron las inolvidables canciones de Dancing Queen y Money, Money, Money, y esa música disco que hoy cualquiera reconoce, especialmente tras el disco Super Trouper (1980), después de la película. The visitors (1981) fue el octavo álbum antes de su silencio sobre los escenarios, pero aquello nunca fue una despedida, vuelve a insistir Gorel.

Lo ha demostrado el grupo con el último trabajo. La idea de hacer un espectáculo de avatares sin que ABBA estuviera allí surgió hace algo más de cinco años. “Querían probar algo nuevo. Björn y Benny escribieron dos nuevas canciones, a las chicas les encantaron, se metieron en el estudio y grabaron”. Después captaron sus movimientos con unos trajes especiales para el espectáculo virtual de Londres durante semanas. “Es una cosa enorme, hay mucha técnica detrás”, dice sobre el concierto y su compleja producción. El grupo llevaba décadas sin juntarse para grabar, “pero fue como si hubieran estado ayer juntos en el estudio. Como si no hubiera pasado el tiempo. Hubo risas, respeto y alegría”.

Since 2018, ABBA fans have eagerly been awaiting the release of two new recordings from the Swedish pop legends. And now, after many delays, it appears there may be not just two but FIVE new tracks coming out next year. Or so claims the UK music journalist Geoff Lloyd.


Lloyd broke the exciting news on his podcast Reasons To Be Cheerful. He revealed that he’s recently had a Zoom chat with ABBA member Björn Ulvaeus.




Geoff says that Björn confirmed that ABBA has recorded five new songs. This is three more than the previous two new songs the band announced back in 2018.

The new songs were due to be released at the end of 2018. After previous delays, the release has been delayed again due to technical difficulties and — of course — issues from Covid-19 precautions. The podcast claims the new release date will be sometime in 2021.



ABBA are planning to tour the songs using virtual holographic avatars — or ABBAtars — in place of Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid themselves.

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reached out to ABBA’s manager Görel Hanser. She could not confirm that five new songs were coming out, but stood by earlier comments about the two new tracks. “I can confirm that two songs will be released, but we do not know more right now.”


The long wait for ABBA’s new songs

The new ABBA recordings have been a long time coming. ABBA’s last album, The Visitors, was released in 1981 and their last new music was released in 1983. The group last performed together in 1986.

In 2018, the group dropped the exciting news that they had recorded two new singles, which were set to be released as part of a Christmas special in December 2018.

However, later that year Ulvaeus confirmed that fans would have to wait a little longer for the new material. The Christmas special had been postponed to an unspecified date in 2019 — but that year passed without any new ABBA material being released.

In May this year, Björn told the US broadcaster CNBC that the two new recordings would be coming out “sometime this year” — but now it appears the release will be happening later still.


The two songs are said to be titled “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down”. Ulvaeus previously described one of the songs as being “like a pop song from the Seventies” and being “very danceable”. The other he described as being “more timeless, more reflective” and that “it is Nordic sad, but happy at the same time.”

ABBA — consisting of Agnetha Fältskog (70), Björn Ulvaeus (75), Benny Andersson (73), and Anni-Frid Lyngstad (74) — is one of the most successful bands of all time. After winning Eurovision 1974 with “Waterloo”, they went on to sell over 400 million albums.

ABBA will have five new songs on the market in 2021, and has pushed back their plans to do a holographic tour to support the music because of the pandemic.

The Swedish group – Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Agnetha Fältskog and Bjorn Ulvaeus – were originally planning to release only two songs for their comeback. But the long process between the original announcement in 2018 and now has allowed them time to do more than planned. It will be the first new ABBA music in 35 years.

Titles include I Still Have Faith In You and Don’t Shut Me Down.

In a statement announcing the new songs, ABBA said, “The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio.”

For the tour, ABBA will appear as their younger selves. “They photographed us from all possible angles, they made us grimace in front of cameras, they painted dots on our faces, they measured our heads,” said Bjorn Ulvaeus. “Apparently a cranium doesn’t change with age the way the rest of your body falls apart.”



The long gap between the breakup and today has not diminished the world’s passion for the group.

Last month, Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro reported that a Mamma Mia 3 could be in the cards down the road.

Judy Craymer, who produced the combined $1 billion-plus-grossing feature films Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, as well as the original West End $4 billion-grossing ABBA musical, said that a trilogy was possible. Craymer said that she intended to develop the musical during the COVID-19 shutdown.

“I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with COVID fog,” says the producer.

Nu går dock bandets manager Görel Hanser ut och dementerar att bandet ska släppa mer än två nya låtar ihop.


– Det är två låtar som är aktuella för närvarande och jag vet inte när de ska släppas, det finns inget datum satt. Förmodligen nästa år men det hänger ihop med avatarprojektet som har blivit försenat på grund av corona och så. Det finns inget datum satt och det finns inget mer än att man pratar om två låtar, säger hon till TT.

Popgruppen Abba har spelat in ny musik. ”Vi kände alla att det, efter 35 år, vore kul att träffas och gå in i inspelningsstudion”, skriver Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus och Anni-Frid Lyngstad ett pressmeddelande.
– Det är fantastiskt bra ABBA låtar och du kommer känna igen dig, säger deras manager Görel Hanser till Kulturnyheterna.

Den svenska popgruppen Abba släpper ny musik för första gången sedan 1981 – då deras sista skiva The Visitors kom. Det bekräftar deras manager Görel Hanser.

– När Björn och Benny föreslog att de skulle gå in i studion och prova igen, så tyckte tjejerna genast ”åh, ja vad kul”. Och sedan när de kom till studion var det som att ingen tid hade gått, säger Görel Hanser till Kulturnyheterna.

Enligt Görel Hanser har gruppen spelat in två nya låtar, Don’t shut me down och I still have faith in you.

– I still have faith in you, kommer att finnas med i det tv-progam som NBC och BBC producerar och som kommer sändas i december. Och där är inte ABBA med i sitt verkliga jag utan det är deras digitala alter egon som kommer vara med där och framföra den här låten, säger hon.

Tidigare i april avslöjades att gruppen i höst återförenas i form av digitalt framställda ”abbatarer” i en tv-show i samarbete med brittiska BBC och amerikanska NBC.

I pressmeddelandet skriver bandet vidare att studioarbetet utmynnat i två helt nya låtar:

“Det resulterade i två nya låtar och en av dem 'I still have faith in you' kommer att framföras av våra digitala jag i en tv-special producerad av NBC och BBC tänkt att sändas i december. Vi må ha blivit gamla, men låten är ny. Och det känns bra.”

Björn Ulvaeus har tidigare uppgett att de digitala varianterna av abba-medlemmarna även kommer att ge sig ut på en turné.

Sålde 400 miljoner skivor
Abba sålde under sin karriär över 400 miljoner skivor mellan åren 1972-1982. Från 70-talets mitt och fram till dess att gruppen upplöstes var de en av världens mest framgångsrika popgrupper med närmare 70 singlar som listettor världen över och över 60 albumettor.

Det stora internationella genombrottet kom 1974 i Eurovision Song Contest i form av låten Waterloo.

1982 gjorde Abbba sin sista studioinspelning och har därefter uppträtt vid endast ett tillfälle tillsammans i tv-programmet Här är ditt liv – ägnat gruppens legendariske manager Stikkan Andersson 1986.

Swedish music legends Abba have reunited.
Agnetha, Benny, Björn and Anni-Frid have recorded new music.
”We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it culd be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio”, the group says in a joint statement.

The Swedish superstars in Abba have recorded two new songs, 35 years after calling it quits.

One of the songs, titles ”I still have faith in you” will be premiered in December performed by the Abba avatars in a tv special broadcasted by BBC and NBC.

In a joint statement Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad says:

”The decision to go ahead with the exciting Abba avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!”

”The sound will be familiar, but also modern”
The group confirms that their studio work has resulted in two songs, one called ”I still have faith in you” which is to be released in December with a BBC and NBC tv-special to promote the new Abba avatar tour.


The Swedish supergroup also jokes about the fact that they now are 35 years older than when the group split:

”We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good”, they say in the joint statement.

Speaking to Aftonbladet Abba’s spokesperson Görel Hanser describes Abba’s new session in the studio: ”It was like old times. Easy as nothing, it did’t feel weird that they hadn’t been in the studio together for 35 years.”

Hanser also spoke of the new Abba sound: ”The sound will be familiar, but also modern”.

Hanser declined to comment on a releasedate for the second song and also confirmed that the group won’t reunite on stage other than as avatars in the new Abba avatar tour: ”No, you can not expect them to join forces on stage again. They will not do that” says she.

Pop group Abba have returned to the studio to record their first new music since the 1980s.

The Swedish quartet said the new material was an "unexpected consequence" of their recent decision to put together a "virtual reality" tour.

"We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the studio," the band said on Instagram.

"And it was like time stood still."

No release date has been set for the new songs - but one of them, titled I Still Have Faith In You, will be performed in December on a TV special broadcast by the BBC and NBC.




Abba's spokesperson Gorel Hanser told the BBC the atmosphere in the studio was "magic".

"It was like no time had passed at all," she said. "It was like the olden days. They were happy, it was easy and warm-hearted, and it was actually quite moving. I wasn't the only one with tears in my eyes."

But she said said the group would not perform live, other than as holograms in the forthcoming Abba Avatar tour.

"It's a studio moment, I can promise you," she said. "Don't expect too much."

The band have resisted pressure to reform since they stopped recording together in 1982, despite a reported $1bn (£689m) offer to tour in 2000.

In an interview with the BBC in 2013, Agnetha Faltskog said she preferred to leave the band in the past.

"It was such a long time ago, and we are getting older, and we have our different lives," she explained.

News of the new material comes in a bumper year for Abba fans. An immersive exhibition based on the band's career is running on London's South Bank, while Chess, the musical Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson wrote with Sir Tim Rice, is being revived in the West End.

Speaking to BBC News, Rod Stephen, founder of Abba tribute act Bjorn Again, described the new material as "a whole new beginning".

"I heard about Abba releasing new songs and I was instantly, like everyone else in the Abba community, really excited to know what the songs were and how they're going to sound. Will it have that 1970s sound or will it be up to date?

"It's brilliant really, because we love Abba's music to death. I just hope they're great songs, I hope they're equivalent to Dancing Queen or Mamma Mia."

He added: "I know Benny and Bjorn wouldn't release something in this way unless they were good songs."

Speaking to the BBC's Adam Fleming last week, Ulvaeus had hinted that there could be new material. Here's what he said:

How did the Abba avatar idea come about?

We were introduced to an idea by Simon Fuller who is, as you know, an entertainment entrepreneur - [creator of] the format of American Idol and manager of the Spice Girls and so forth.

He came to Stockholm and he presented this idea to us that we could make identical digital copies of ourselves of a certain age and that those copies could then go on tour and they could sing our songs, you know, and lip sync. I've seen this project halfway through and it's already mind-boggling.

What does it actually look like? Does it look like a younger you?

Yes. Real. And they say once it's finished you'll never see that it's not a human being. And what attracted me personally to this is of course I'm always curious, scientifically-curious and this is new technology and we are pioneers. So I thought, 'Yeah let's go for it,' and you know the other three went for it as well.

What is the actual format of the tribute show going to be? Is it going to be these Abba-tars all the way though?

No, other people as well. And as for the format I'm not entirely sure what it's going to look like but some sort of tribute show with these Abba-tars for want of a better word as the kind of centrepiece.

Will you write new material for it?

We don't know what the Abba-tars will sing yet but there's lots to choose from of the old stuff and yeah, I'm not ready to say that yet.

Why not reform and have a reunion? The real you, rather than the virtual ones.

Yeah, why not? Well… it never seemed like a good idea. It's not that we haven't had offers over the years. But somehow we always thought that the Abba that people have in their minds are the once-young and energetic group from the '70s. And we just never felt the urge to go on tour, I guess.

On the whole we toured very little. We had like 10 years together and of those 10 years maybe we toured, like, seven months. Not more than that. So to go on tour as a geriatric, I don't know!

Formed in 1972, Abba were essentially a Swedish supergroup, consisting of songwriters Ulvaeus and Andersson from The Hep Stars and singers Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, who had scored success as solo artists.

But their joint project completely eclipsed their previous successes. After winning the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo in 1974, the band sold almost 400 million singles and albums around the world.

Mamma Mia!, the musical based on their hits and produced by Ulvaeus and Andersson, has been seen by more than 50 million people.

During their most successful period, the band survived marriage break-ups between Ulvaeus and Faltskog, and Lyngstad and Andersson, but they finally called it a day in 1983.

Their final recording sessions, in 1982, produced the hits Under Attack and The Day Before You Came, which featured on the compilation album The Singles.

Their last public performance came three years later, on the Swedish version of TV show This Is Your Life, which honoured their manager Stig Anderson.

WORLD PREMIERE OF THE INTERACTIVE EXHIBITION ABOUT THE POP SENSATION ABBA TO BE UNVEILED AT ABBA THE MUSEUM IN MAY 2018!

It has been 36 years since Sweden's most successful music export stopped performing together, but their songs are played more than ever today. Five years after the museum opened, a whole new exhibition about the group's members will be unveiled at ABBA The Museum in Stockholm. It is an exhibition that shows what they have been doing since their time with ABBA. Visitors are taken on a journey through decades of music, with the focus on Anni-Frid, Björn, Benny and Agnetha. Interactive elements are mixed with new chapters in this permanent story of music. Because some music never dies – it multiplies! The exhibition will open to the general public on 8 May 2018.

- It covers just over 35 years and looks at a range of exciting musical collaborations pursued by Anni-Frid, Björn, Benny and Agnetha. Portraying some of these has been an immense and interesting challenge. The success of ABBA created a platform for these four artists to develop different personal projects without having to think about anything but ensuring that the result was the best that they could possibly create and something about which they could be proud. We look at the musicals, solo albums and films in a digital and analogue approach, and include new interviews. In keeping with the style of ABBA The Museum, we create imaginative environments with exciting interactivity, says Ingmarie Halling, Creative Director/Curator, ABBA The Museum.

- This exhibition is a welcome and important addition to ABBA The Museum. We want to show visitors that ABBA is still around us today and that the band members have managed to keep their creativity alive throughout all these years. Now another piece of the puzzle has been added to the story about the four band members, which continues to grow! – Anything can happen – and has happened – when creativity is allowed to flow. The new exhibition will be full of gems, says Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

– Because we pushed our creativity in so many directions after the ABBA years, I think the new exhibition is like a wonderful amusement park. – We never really bade farewell to one another. We wanted to try new things, and the time never seemed right for a reunion. Yet the music has, of course, never left me. Much of what we achieved during the years after ABBA is now presented in the exhibition, says Benny Andersson.

– The ABBA story did not end in 1982. One thing led to another, and the journey continued. We now see that in this exhibition, says Agnetha Fältskog.
