Agnetha Fältskog  interview in Swedish M-magazine December 2010
Agnetha Fältskog intervju - entrevista - interview / Amelia Adamo M Magasin / december 27 2010 - Dec 29

SPLTTRADES 1983. Agnetha Fältskog talar ut i stor intervju i Magasin M.

1950: Agnetha föds i Jönköping.
1970: Abba bildas i konstellationen Festfolket.

1982: Spelar in duetten "Never again" med Tomas Ledin.
2004: Släpper efter 17 års tystnad singeln "If I thought you'd ever change your mind" och coveralbumet "My colouring book" som säljer platina.

Swedish singer Agnetha Fältskog has revealed that she is open to reuniting with supergroup Abba in a detailed recent magazine interview.

The famously reclusive star has not yet consulted her former bandmates about the possibility of reuniting with the group, she said in a lengthy interview with M Magazine.

However, she wants to meet with former husband Björn Ulvaeus and former couple Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Reuß von Plauen to discuss the possibility of performing together again, Expressen reported on Sunday.

"A reunion, an occasional opportunity, maybe in connection with a charity event, I believe we could consider it," she told M Magazine, according to Expressen.

"We would not reunite for a tour like the Rolling Stones and other old bands do now. However, I could see us doing something together in the future. It is just a feeling I have that it would be fun to get together, talk a bit about the past and maybe perform together," Fältskog told the magazine.

The group split in 1983, three years after Fältskog and Ulvaeus finalised their divorce.

Benny Andersson, commenting the prospect of a reunion in March, clearly stated that a reunion was out of the question.

Fältskog said that she is not in contact with the other band members, but the group members have stepped out together in recent years.

In July 2008, the four members stood together on the balcony of Stockholm's Rival Theatre, which is owned by Andersson, for the Swedish premiere of the movie Mamma Mia! Fältskog arrived with Reuss, formerly known as Anni-Frid Lyngstad, and movie star Meryl Streep.

The occasion marked the first time all four members were photographed together in 22 years.

Separately, for the launch of the Abba World exhibition in Australia, Fältskog recorded an opening film with Andersson in June. In addition, Fältskog appeared at the opening of the Mamma Mia! musical in Copenhagen with Ulvaeus in October.

The group last worked in 1982 to record six songs intended for a new album that was never completed.

ABBA singer Agnetha Faltskog told an interviewer that she is open to the idea of a reunion with the massively popular Swedish pop group.

Faltskog said she had not discussed a possible reunion with her former bandmates - her ex-husband Björn Ulvaeus and another former couple, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Prinzessin Reuss von Plauen - but would like to meet with them and discuss the idea, Swedish news website The Local reported.

"A reunion, an occasional opportunity, maybe in connection with a charity event, I believe we could consider it," Faltskog said.

"We would not reunite for a tour like the Rolling Stones and other old bands do now. However, I could see us doing something together in the future."

The group last recorded together in 1982, for an album that was never completed, and broke up in 1983.

Faltskog and Ulvaeus divorced in 1980, while Andersson and Reuss von Plauen - who was known as Anni-Frid Lyngstad while in ABBA - divorced in 1981.

In March, Andersson said he would not consider an ABBA reunion.

ABBA has sold more than 375 million albums worldwide.

Their music forms the basis for the musical "Mamma Mia!," which has been running since 1999.

Abba arbetade tillsammans senast 1982 när låtarna ”Cassandra”, ”The day before you came”, ”I am the city”, ”Just like that”, ”Under attack” och ”You owe me one” spelades in.

-------------

The beginning
The ABBA story began in June 1966 when Björn Ulvaeus (born 1945) met Benny Andersson (born 1946) for the first time. Björn was a member of the Hootenanny Singers, a very popular folk music group, while Benny played keyboards in Sweden’s biggest pop group of the 1960s, The Hep Stars.

The pair wrote their first song together later that year, and by the end of the decade they had established a regular partnership as composers. By that time, Benny had left The Hep Stars, while the Hootenanny Singers only existed in the recording studio. The Hootenanny Singers released their records on the Polar Music record label, owned by Stig Anderson (1931–1997), who was to become ABBA’s manager. Stig also contributed lyrics to many ABBA hits during the first years of the group’s career.
Lycka album

Björn & Benny´s Lycka album, featured Agnetha and Frida.

In the spring of 1969, Björn and Benny met the two women who were to become not only their fiancées but also the other half of ABBA. Agnetha Fältskog (born 1950) had been a successful solo singer since releasing her first single in 1967. She and Björn were married in July 1971. Anni-Frid Lyngstad (born 1945), also known as Frida, started her recording career shortly before Agnetha. Frida was of Norwegian origin, but had moved to Sweden at a very early age. Benny and Frida didn’t get married until October 1978

At first, the four members collaborated musically mainly by contributing songs, instrumental backing, production work or backing vocals to the recordings they each made as solo or duo acts. In 1970, the attractive sound of their four voices combined gave them the idea to put together the cabaret act Festfolk (which had the double meaning "engaged couples" and "party people"). This first attempt failed, but in the spring of 1972 they recorded a song called ‘People Need Love’, garnering a medium-sized hit in Sweden. At this time they called themselves Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid.
People Need Love/Merry Go Round

People Need Love was the very first ABBA single.

Encouraged by this success, they entered the 1973 Swedish selections for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘Ring Ring’. They finished third, but the single and the album of the same name competed for the top positions on the Swedish chart. ‘Ring Ring’ also became a hit in several other European countries.

The group entered the selections again in 1974, this time with ‘Waterloo’, which took them all the way to the finals in Brighton, England. By this time they had changed their name to ABBA, an acronym of their first names. ABBA was also the name of a Swedish canned fish company, which luckily agreed to lending their name to a pop group. The Eurovision Song Contest on April 6, 1974 turned out to be the most famous moment in ABBA history, when the group won the international juries over with ‘Waterloo’.

Gläns över sjö och strand, stjärna ur fjärran,
du som i Österland tändes av Herran!
Stjärnan från Betlehem leder ej bort men hem.
Barnen och herdarna följa dig gärna,
strålande stjärna, strålande stjärna.

Natt över Judaland, natt över Sion.
Borta vid västerrand slocknar Orion.
Herden som sover trött, barnet som slumrar sött,
vakna vid underbar korus av röster,
skåda en härligt klar stjärna i öster.

Gånga från lamm och hem, sökande Eden,
stjärnan från Betlehem visar dem leden.
Stjärnan från Betlehem leder ej bort men hem.

Agnetha Fältskog interview in Swedish M-magazine December 2010

Copio de http://agnethannifrid.blogspot.com/2010/12/agnetha-featured-in-swedish-m-magazine.html

On the blog of Emilia Adamo she writes the following:
"Guess who was sitting in my sofa yesterday? Agnetha Fältskog! I can´t tell you more than we sat and drank tea, eat a bun (one bun a day she allows herself to eat) and had a nice time. The rest of the chat is coming in M issue no1. Agnetha is the boss, not me, over the text and pictures." The magazine will be released on the 28th of december 2010. Watch out for that. Agnetha seems to be preparring for a surprice. Will 2011 finally be the year she records and releases a new album? What a Christmas dream that would be!

The Interview

Everything started with Lolo Murray. Lolo is  a professional stylist who does fashion pages sometimes (sometimes for M Magasin) and works with personal styling and advice. One of ther customers are Agnetha Fältskog. It's Lolo who has done what we are proud and happy to present; our most famous fahion model: Agnetha Fältskog. The clothes Lola has chosen for the fashion photos are meant to represent 24 hours of a star's life (apart from the shiny negligée, it's not exactly what Agnetha would chose, but it looks smashing in the photo!).
     - Why can't I interview her, I asked Lolo when she told us about the fashion section. I knew very well how uninterested Agnetha is being interviewed in a magazine. She wants to be alone. But a girl has got to try.
And the other day the world start was suddenly sitting on my yellow couch at Knivsöder (Hornstull) in Stockholm! Agnetha - far from a diva - didn't quite understand my excitement (myself I was sending severa text messages to my friends and wrote: "Guess who is sitting on my couch? Agnetha Fältskog!).
She was practically dressed, winterpants and real hiking boots. It's winter and she lives an hour from Stockholm City on a smaller farm. She has lived there for many years and has the pleasure of having her daughter Linda, an actress and her family all living there. Her son Christian who is a computer programmer lives a little farther away from his mom.
     - You are an exception, she says to point out when we meet. I like Lollo a lot, and this is my way to thank her. And I like the M-Magasin, she says.
So this isn't the start of a new an more media oriented life then?
     - Not at all. I'm not interested in being in magazines, tv and newspapers at all. A lot of people think it's just an attitude, that I want to create this air of insecurity. But I genuinely don't want it. I had an overdose. But I haven't retired completely, I have made three solo albums since the ABBA-years.
     - I never feel comfortable talking about my private life. I want to keep that to myselves, protect it. (Which of course means that she won't answer my questions about her private life.)
Do you think you have been described in an incorrect way?
     - I don't relate to the picture of me as a scared human being, or a victim of paparazzi or others. Natuarlly it's unplasant to be watched whereever you go. But that is not why I want to stay as anonymous as possible. It is a choice I have made, nothing I've been forced to do. I think I'm a very well grounded person and I see myself as a pretty normal person. I want to be left alone. Then of course there are limitations that has stopped me. I suffer from fear of flying, but I have been in therapy for that and it has become much less of a problem. When Agnetha celebrated her 60th birthday this year she and her whole family flew to Mallorca, three hours of flying. But she hasn't gone beyond that. Yet.
What's it like to become 60. Is it harder and more difficult when you are beautiful and loved by so many people?
     - In a way life has become more fun. It could have something to do that I don't see it as a curve going down, rather the opposite - up! I like thinking positively. Naturally your body's there to remind you of your age, I don't exactly jump out of bed as easily now as I did when I was 30! Ageing is natural and unavoidable. That is something I share with everyone else in my age group, and that's a comforting thought. Then there are some perks about becoming older; I have a lot of experience, I know myself, I know my body, know what works and what doesn't.
     - The most important thing is to be healthy and humble about the fact that you are "still in the game". For example; I can use both my legs, a lot of people my age can't. I'm a grandmother and I want to be around them as long as possible through their different phases. It's important to me to be in good shape. I don't want them to have a grandmother who hardly can move. This is so much more important than than how you look.
(When I look at Agnetha Fältskog I think of the millions of girls from all around the world who wanted to look like her and Frida Lyngstad. How many hasn't stood in front of the mirror wishing they were Agnetha or Frida. This is a long time ago now. But if you meet Agnetha on the street you would immediately know who she is. Agnetha usually wears large sunglasses to avoid to be recognized.)
How do you keep fit (you look fantastic in the photoshoots (and in real life too)?
     - I walk a lot and I work out at a gym, I also try to watch what I eat, but I don't follow any diets. I'm not totally convinced about the GI-method and use my common sense instead. I gladly eat a sticky bun every day and I'm a total icecream monster, but I have better control over the icecream now.
What's it like to be a photomodel, even if only for a day?
     - Yes, I felt like trying something new and I have never done this before. So when Lolo suggested this I thought it was a fun idea. I've become more interested in clothes and fashion as I've grown older. Maybe it's because I have more time on my hands now. I like to follow trends in magazines, see them come and go. I enjoy dressin up now, even though I'm not a red carpet diva. I wouldn't have the stamina!
Sleep is incredible important to Agnetha. She needs at least eight hours to make the following day be a good one. She is also addicted to silence. She chooses what to do, she doesn't run around doing a thousand things at once. She did more of her share of that during the ABBA-years. At home on her there's a gold record proclaiming that ABBA has sold 374 million records world wide! And she has talked enough about that time.
Back to the fashion...
     - I think fashion is fun, I don't have any absolute favourite brands, I like browsing the stores. Particurlarly in another city. She has no problem driving down to Copenhagen (Denmark). That's a city with lots and lots of beautiful clothes. I think it's fun to see how much you can change your appearance from just changing clothes. Lolo is great at bringing out my personality and make it just right. I'm quite fascinated by that.
What kind of fashion girl are you - business, casual or party?
     - Pretty but comfortable. Good quality clothes and shoes is a much when you live in the country. I don't feel like a glamourous person.
But the glamour, don't you miss it today?
     - Hardly, but it does happen that I got to openings or parties. I went to the "Mamma Mia!"-opening and it was a lot of fun.
Where do you sing today? In the shower, to the horses?
     - The horses are Lindas, I don't ride them, but I like watching them. Incredibly beautiful and interesting animals. I sing by the piano, I was able to play Bach when I was only 12. I like playíng the piano. For a while I though I should become a cantor after I turned 50. I felt like doing something completely different. But it never happened.
Don't you have any unfinished songs?
     - Lots! I have  a suitcase with half finished songs. I invent these really beautiful melodies, but then I don't follow through.
Why not?
      - I really don't know. I was 15 when I started singing in a band. At 18 I made my first recording. When I was 25 ABBA was formed. After ABBA I have done three solo albums. Perhaps I've been creative enough?
Do you ever listen to the ABBA songs?
      - It took quite a long time before I listened to any kind of music after the ABBA years, I was just fed up. But sometimes I listen to what we did. And when i listen to"The Winner Takes It All" I think, that one we did really well!! I sometimes listen to that song when I feel a little depressed or have low selfesteem.
Do you have low selfesteem?
     - I wish it was better. But it has become much better during the years. Don't all us women suffer from low selfesteem sometimes? Not you Agnetha, I think. The whole world loved ABBA and all the love we fans gave you it should be enough for a full long life. What would a party be without ABBA-songs - a complete nothing! But I guess it's probably not that simple.
Is "The Winner Takes It All" your favourite?
     - There are several, among them one Frida sings; "Our Last Summer". It's so good it should have become a mega hit!
Is there anything from that time that you would like to go back to?
     - I liked the work uin the studio. But I do not miss meeting the audicence on a stage. Naturally I'm eternally grateful for them liking us. Some people love being on stage, feeling elevated by the applauses and they never want to get down from the stage. I enjoyed that too, but the real fun for me was the work in the studio. But standing in the spotlight, no. A different life. I'm living exactly the life I want to live today.
Your daughter Linda (dad: Björn Ulvaeus) is an actress. Have you tried to deter her?
     - No, she was convinced that she wanted to be an actor even as a little child. Both my children have very strong wills and they both walk their own ways. I have been a mother hen and suffered from a lot of fears - but they have not affected my children. They live their lives and have their own interests and have turned into individuals with good, healthy lives, which is a relief for me considering I was away, and working so hard when they were small.
You have so much money that you could spend the rest of your days at the beautiful and luxurious Bora-Bora Islands. Just laying there in the sunshine, reading and relaxing. Is that a dream of yours?
     - Not at all. I really like it here at home. I have some problem with the wintertime, but I definitely don't want to stay in a hotel more than temporarily. I had a flat in Paris, but I have sold it. I don't have any more dreams of owning homes abroad. I'm a real homebody.
So what do you find interesting then?
     - Periodically I read a lot, I've juste finished "The Wedding" by Danielle Steel which I though was excellent. I'm also interested in medicine and alternative medicine. If I hadn't pursued the music maybe I would become something within sciene. Perhaps doctor.
And what do you think is really important?
-Being there for the people I love and be a good fellow human being. This unearthly famous celebritiy sitting on my couch keeps a very low profile. I bring her tea and Lussebullar. There is nothing Garbo-mystery about her. She is more of a genuinly shy Swede. Nah, I'm not that special, she seems to think when I get star-struck.
     - I'm very shy, not very social, already as a kid my mother said that I was happier when people left than when they arrived-
And naturally I have to ask the mandatory ABBA-question: Will you ever reunite? It's a dream I and millions of others are hoping for. Can you think of ABBA again?
     - No and yes. We will hardly ever be reunited for a tour like the Rolling Stones and other big bands. But I don't hold for impossible that we do something together in the future. Please note that this is not something I have discussed with the other three members, it's more of a feeling I have that it would be great to come together and talk a little about old times and maybe make a performance together. But that would only take place once, perhaps for a charity of some sort. Now I almost fell off the couch. ABBA reunited. But Agnetha assures me again that this somethings she hasn't discussed with the others and nothing has been decided.
Is there something that you haven't done that you would like to do?
     - Yes, there is actually. I would love to sing the theme song for a huge movie, think "Titanic!"
At last, what would you like to tell in an interview:
     - The best think with life is that it can start over and over and over again.

Waterloo (1974)
How the Abba story all began, in Brighton at the Eurovision Song Contest – and can you believe us Brits gave their first UK No 1 'nil points'?

Ring Ring (1974)
Re-released after Waterloo, this had been Abba's original Eurovision entry in 1973, a year before their great success.

I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do (1975)
An absolute classic now but it wasn't all plain sailing for Abba with this single which stalled just inside the Top 40.

SOS (1975)
A haunting melody and the song which kick-started Abba's career in the UK after the previous two singles.

Mamma Mia (1975)
This second No 1 in the UK came complete with an iconic pop video as we saw the now famous four faces 'back to back'.

Fernando (1976)
Originally written for Frida's solo career, this song reached Number One in the UK and was a big hit across the pond in the US too.

Dancing Queen (1976)
Probably the only pop song premiered at a royal wedding - which is how false rumours spread that it was about the King of Sweden's new bride.

Money Money Money (1976)
Featuring Frida's dark, sultry vocals, it was said that by 1976 Abba were now Sweden's second biggest export industry after Volvo.

Knowing Me Knowing You (1977)
For the first time Benny & Bjorn were writing about relationship splits in a band made up of two couples who would both eventually divorce.

The Name of The Game
(1977)
The first Abba song to be sampled in the Noughties (by the Fugees) - a tribute which helped lead to the band's second wind in popularity before Mamma Mia.

Take A Chance On Me (1978)
Abba's biggest-selling song in America came to Bjorn while out running – the "tk-a-ch" sound being something he sang while jogging!

Summer Night City (1978)
With a nod to the disco era, this song came complete with a video shot in their hometown of Stockholm.

Chiquitita (1979)
A long run of No 1 hits in the UK came to a temporary end for Abba when this song was kept off the top spot by Blondie's Heart of Glass.

Does Your Mother Know (1979)
The only single with lead vocals from Bjorn, the song became a favourite with (and covered by) REM.

Voulez Vous (1979)
Was this Abba's raunchiest song ever? Certainly it was considered "five minutes of unabashed sex-drenched magic" by the NME at the time.

Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight) (1979)
The intro to this upbeat classic was to fuel Madonna's No 1 hit Hung Up in the years to come.

I Have A Dream (1979)
This was the only single with vocals other than Abba featuring on the track – the Stockholm Children’s Choir take a bow!

The Winner Takes It All (1980)
One of pop's tenderest break up songs ever, with lyrics written by Bjorn for his former wife Agnetha to sing.

Super Trouper (1980)
Abba's ninth and last UK No 1 was about life on tour - a super trouper being a massive spotlight used on stage.

Lay All Your Love On Me (1981)
The first 12-inch single ever to reach the top ten, the song was released just as Benny and Frida's marriage came to an end.

One of Us (1981)
A Christmas hit, the song peaked in the No 2 slot – meaning that tenth UK No 1 would prove just elusive.

Head Over Heels (1982)
Made the Top 30 in spite of Abba producer Michael Tretow having a prolonged attack of hiccups in the studio during recording!

The Day Before You Came (1982)
The last song Abba ever recorded, Agnetha sang her unforgettable lead vocal on this haunting tune in a suitably darkened room.

Under Attack (1982)
Boasting a sound inspired by The Buggles' Video Killed the Radio Star, Abba found a hit sound for the Eighties.

Thank You For The Music (1983)
Now one of Abba's most famous songs it was only released as a single six years after it was recorded – originally forming part of a 'mini musical' on Abba – The Album.

"ABBA - The Movie" has also been released on video in the UK and Sweden and also on laserdisc
Notes ABBA had taken a film crew on their Australian tour where all the concerts were recorded along with backstage activity and travel in between the four concert venues. They had intended the movie to be a documentary film - something they could look back on in years to come and remember the madness that was their life at that time.
Film Director Lasse Hallström was approached in November 1976 to prepare a synopsis and he travelled with them on their tour of Europe in January and February 1977 taking in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, West Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland and England) to watch the shows for himself.  His synopsis of 5½ pages in length was approved and plans were made immediately for him and his crew to travel to Australia.  Read what Lasse Hallström had to say about "ABBA - The Movie" here.

Not everything you see in "ABBA - The Movie" was reality and there are dozens of editing, continuity, visual and other discrepancies throughout the film. Lasse Hallström used every trick he could. There are many instances where parts of some scenes were filmed in completely different places and times. It's not until you meet Australians who are familiar with these places that the discrepancies are pointed out.  Click here if you want to know where they are!
Apart from ABBA, two Australian actors starred in the film - Tom Oliver (later to become Lou Carpenter in Neighbours) and Robert Hughes.  See what Robert Hughes had to say here.

Concert performances featured in "ABBA - The Movie":
Tiger / SOS / Money, Money, Money / He Is Your Brother / Intermezzo No. 1 / Waterloo / Mamma Mia / Rock Me / I've Been Waiting For You / Why Did It Have To Be Me / When I Kissed The Teacher / Get On The Carousel (the only official release of this song is in this film) / I'm A Marionette / Fernando / Dancing Queen / So Long

Others:
Please Change Your Mind (written by Benny & Björn and performed by Nashville Train)
Hole In Your Soul (over opening credits and Qantas plane arriving at Sydney)
The Name Of The Game (dream sequence)
Ring Ring (schoolgirls)
Eagle (in the lift)
Thank You For the Music (studio - Alternate Mix)
NB. the list does not count the bits of other songs that are heard near the beginning and end on the radio tape, (Agnetha singing two notes of "I Wonder" in the changing room!), etc.  Remember there's also Thank You For the Music as the credits roll at the end.
"Eagle", "The Name Of The Game"  and "Thank You For The Music" were all filmed in Panavision so not really suitable for television broadcast because the picture would be cut in half. Consequently when these songs were later released as singles, new versions ("Eagle", "The Name Of The Game" and "Thank You For The Music" were prepared for television).
