ABBA planning massive shake-up of Voyage virtual concert residency with new songs

The legendary band have recorded far more than the 22 songs their holograms belt out as they plan to review, remix and reorder tracks over the coming years and until long after they're dead

Fans of ABBA who have already enjoyed the thrill of their Voyage London residency concert will have reason to go back to see the show again – as the band plan to shake-up the setlist.

The group, consisting of Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, have been immortalised in holographic form at their purpose built concert hall in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park near Stratford in East London.

And while the foursome donned motion sensor outfits to record themselves singing to create their initial 22-track setlist and their 'ABBAtar' holograms, it has been confirmed that they recorded far more tunes in order for their resident concert to get a new breath of life when the time is right.

Benny’s son Ludvig has revealed that the group recorded so many songs that they will be able to keep changing up the setlist even after the stars have died.

He told The Sun: “We did more songs than we knew we were going to use. So there is more material.

“If this keeps running and people keep wanting to come and see it, we are intending to change a song out or update the show, because that’s also fun to do.”

He also hinted that other Voyage residency centres could be built around the world.

He said: “The dream would be to have one somewhere in South America, one somewhere in South East Asia, one in North America.”

Devout ABBA fans wishing for more new music following the release of Voyage last year, which topped charts in the UK and around the globe, will need to keep on wishing.

Benny last year signalled that the group would never again make any more music - despite the success.

He told The Guardian: “I never said myself that Abba was never going to happen again… But I can tell you now: this is it.”

While Bjorn also made this view clear during a chat with The Sun, commenting: “When you do a thing like that, you don’t know how people will receive it. It was with such pride that we released that album.

“I don’t think there will be any more music with ABBA. I think that was definitely our last album.”

The 10 track album, Voyage, was released in November last year – however it is reported there were two extra tracks recorded for the album which ultimately didn’t make the final cut.

It is expected these two discarded tracks will never be released as the band have vowed not to release any more music – despite the success of the album, which was their first in 40 years.
